About the Course

Set at 2,150 meters in the Llanogrande valley outside Rionegro, the 18-hole championship course at Club Campestre de Medellín is one of Colombia's most proven tournament venues, with bentgrass greens and Kikuyu fairways stretching to 7,254 yards from the back tees. Water touches half the holes, and the lake guarding holes 10 through 12 is the round's defining stretch. It is also the course where Ken Looper carded a 60 at the 69th Avianca Colombia Open, and it hosts the Copa Camilo Villegas junior championship every year. The club is private and members focused, with an 8-room hotel, two restaurants, and a dozen other sports on the property.

Proven tournament pedigree: hosted the 69th Avianca Colombia Open on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and hosts the Copa Camilo Villegas junior championship every year with national, WAGR and Junior Golf Scoreboard points.

Cool mountain golf at 2,150 meters with 13 to 23 C temperatures, about 45 to 50 minutes from Medellín.

Things to know

4 CONS

Private members club with no formal visitor program; outside access is not guaranteed.

Caddies are mandatory, no golf carts, and no equipment rental, so it is a walking-only round and you must bring your own clubs.

The course is flat by design, which some golfers find less dramatic than mountain layouts nearby.

At 2,150 meters the ball flies noticeably farther, which can punish players who do not adjust their yardages.

Notable Facts

5 FACTS

  • Ken Looper shot a 12-under 60 in a single round (round 2) at the 69th Avianca Colombia Open presented by BBVA here, breaking Corey Conners's course record of 63 set the day before. It was the lowest round in PGA TOUR Latinoamérica history at the time.

  • The club hosts the annual Copa Camilo Villegas junior championship, which awards points for the national amateur ranking, the World Amateur Golf Ranking and the Junior Golf Scoreboard.

  • The Nico Open, hosted by two-time PGA Tour winner Nicolás Echavarría, is played here; the 2025 edition was won by Martín Ramírez and Mariana Beltrán. Echavarría learned golf at this club.

  • The back tee plays 7,254 yards at a 74.7 rating and 142 slope; Fedegolf rates five additional men's tees down to 5,078 yards, and five women's tees up to 7,020 yards. No women's rating exists for the 7,254 back tee.

  • The club was founded September 11, 1924 and merged with Club Llanogrande in 1974.

Local Tips

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR ROUND

01

Respect the lake stretch

Holes 10 through 12 play around one large lake; favor the safe side off the tee and take your medicine on the layup.

02

Lag putting matters most

The greens are large and mostly flat, so lag putting from distance matters more than reading big breaks.

03

Club down for the altitude

At 2,150 meters expect roughly an extra club of carry; club down on approach shots or the back bunkers come into play.

04

Position over power

With water on half the holes, play the percentages off the tee: the course rewards position over power.

05

Lean on your caddie

Caddies are mandatory, so lean on the caddie for green reads and the exact lines around the lakes.
