About the Course

The David Gutiérrez course at Club Los Lagartos represents the pinnacle of high-altitude parkland golf in South America. Set within the dense urban fabric of Bogotá at an elevation exceeding 8,500 feet, the course occupies historic Muisca indigenous territory, weaving through undulating hillside terrain and the remnants of the ancient Tibabuyes marshlands. Originally established in 1944, the layout was completely reimagined in 2012 by Scott Miller, a former lead architect for Nicklaus Design, who modernized the strategic demands of the course while respecting its natural topographical flow.

What golfers love

3 PROS

Impeccable agronomic conditioning with dense Kikuyu fairways and lightning-fast Poa Annua greens.

A deeply historic tournament venue having hosted the Colombian Open and numerous Caribbean Tour events.

Lush, vibrant floral displays framing the tees that create an isolated sanctuary within the sprawling city of Bogotá.

Things to know

3 CONS

Extremely difficult access due to strict exclusivity and a closed-membership operational model.

High-altitude physics and severe Kikuyu rough make delicate shots and distance control exceptionally difficult for newcomers.

Proximity to El Dorado International Airport occasionally pierces tranquility with low-flying commercial aviation.

Local Tips

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR ROUND

01

Engage Local Caddies

Motorized golf carts are strictly prohibited on the undulating David Gutiérrez layout. Employing a local caddie is virtually mandatory, providing essential physical relief at 8,500 feet of altitude and indispensable tactical reads on the highly nuanced, grain-heavy Poa annua putting surfaces that consistently break toward the omnipresent water hazards.

02

Adhere to Traditional Standards

The club enforces a stringent, highly traditional sartorial code reflective of its elite social standing in Bogotá. Men are explicitly required to wear tailored, full-length trousers on the golf course at all times; shorts, bermudas, and denim are universally forbidden and will result in immediate denial of access to the first tee.

03

Leverage Elite Tour Operators

As a strictly private, shareholder-only institution with zero daily public access, independent tee-time bookings are impossible. Unless personally hosted by a standing member, international visitors must secure access via premium, multi-day itineraries managed by specialized Colombian golf tour operators who hold negotiated access privileges.
